We've been working on finding the true meaning of Christmas and paying special attention to the nativity and the first Christmas. In Joy School, the kids are preparing a play, including some fun new Christmas songs and a reenactment of the nativity scene. Saige is the only girl and a natural at playing Mary. The first day I had them put on their costumes for a dress rehearsal she completely developed the role finding her "Baby" for Jesus and a box for his manger. She wanted to watch the church animated movie over and over again and left her costume on the rest of the day. When one of the mothers asked, "Do you like being Mary?" she said, "No, I am Saige." But she does really enjoy pretending. LOL!
I asked the kids to make Christmas cards that we could copy and give to their families. I told them that they needed to make it very special and about the first Christmas. Proud mom....Saige drew this nearly perfect portrait of the manger scene. I was so impressed with her attention to detail and excitement over each character. Definitely one of those art projects you save, or at least take a picture of. She is experimenting and learning how to draw so much more in recent days, it puts a smile on my face to see her drawing people and animals on additional cards to give away for Christmas.
We are trying to focus on finding service or nice things we can do. In the Joy School group, they are trying to do services at home and with their families to try to earn coins to donate to Susan Hansen (a courageous friend, battling cancer). So as one of our activities we went to visit our Grandma Weston and delivered our Christmas card and visited with her. She has a neat Nativity scene that we visited as well. Saige and Ridge were glowing with excitement! I hope that they will always have the true spirit of Christmas in their hearts!
