Dandelions: Reflections of Grandma's House

This has been one of my favorite captures of the summer so far. We went down to my Aunt Glenna's place in St. Charles for a yummy spaghetti dinner. I have so many fond memories of my Grandma Williamson's place. We feed the neighbors horses some grass. Ridge decided he would offer his whole little fist and the yearling chomped down on his little pointer finger and skinned it pretty good. I was halfway expecting his finger to come out without the tip! Then we played on the swings. Swinging was always a favorite past time at Grandma's house. She would push us for ours and we'd relax on the porch swing that was under the lilac trees. We'd always sing, "Swing, Swing, Swing, Swing...under the lilac tree..." a melody that I always sing when I am pushing my kids today. Then aunt Kayla took them out in the field to blow on the dandelions...such a precious moment! We'd spend ours with grandma doing that or blowing bubbles with her thread spools, straw and dawn soup bubbles. I reflected on how I learned to drive in that field helping my dad get the hay off, driving as he threw the bails in the back and on a trailer. Believe me...it was not easy driving the old yellow truck. Especially when I couldn't reach the pedals! Then grandma would always have a creative snack for us or we'd go get an ice cream cone at Bundy's. I miss my grandma! So thankful for that afternoon we spent down there and the chance for me to reminisce on my many cherished memories of that place as a child. I pray that my children will be able to reflect on their childhoods as magically as I do.
