I wish I would have been around the day that they ripped everything out to get a picture, but we tried to be gone as much as possible so that we were not in the way. Tons and TONS of earth was moved from the front of our house and was either hauled away or stacked above to make our burm. Darin Pugmire was a huge help and had great vision for this project! Jadine Rex did a great job on building our rock wall. We really appreciate them!
We transplanted our trees from below to above here in the burm, hope they like their new home. I was busy all fall planting in this beautiful dirt and hope that it looks beautiful in the spring/summer. It gave me a lot more area to pull weeds than I had before. The goal here is to keep all the water that would come down the road to hit the burm and run down past our house and into our new DRAIN and keep it away from our house!Ben Negus was a huge help to us with getting this cement poured and enlisted the help of a couple of buddies whom we are extremely grateful towards. It is sloped nicely and the drain is a gem!
The kids and cousins couldn't wait to ride and play and draw on our new cement. So NICE and flat and clean! :) My mom came up one afternoon and helped me roll on a couple coats of sealer. Thanks MOM!
Then we had about a 10" drop off from the cement to the rest of the driveway, so we couldn't really use the driveway and we were in a muddy mess and the road base wasn't coming for a while. So we had some not so small, rather big chunks of rock brought in so that Cody (even though he was deathly ill this day) could spread it so we could at least use our driveway and garage. We drove over it for quiet some time, really packing it in, which was probably good.
Then, Hurray! The blessed day that I drove home to a completely finished project! I wasn't sure what we were doing in the drop off between the cement and the rock wall, figured maybe gravel, but it was nicely finished off with road base to match the driveway. The driveway was nice smooth, flat, and hard packed. AND can you see my awesome new water spicket? So I don't have to drag a hose all the way from the back of my house to water all my fun plants and trees? Way excited about that!
We had them continue with the road base between the house and shed because it was such a muddy mess and now Cody could park his boat here if he needed or I would like to put some planting boxes or barrels in this area maybe and be able to walk around them. We will see...that is another project!
And TaDa!!! A whole new entry to our home. A whole new look. A whole lot safer. AND already it has proved to be a whole lot dryer. Even with the fairly wet fall we have had, our sub pump has not turned on once, like it usually does. Now we just need to work on that dang leaky rain gutter and every caulk job we have tried hasn't worked. We need some miracle spray or some sort, any ideas?
So come on up and visit us! We have plenty of parking now! And if you do happen to come when it is snowy and slide, you have a nice flat safe zone to go to instead of right into our garage! Phew! That was a HUGE project! So nice to have that one done! :)
Today was the true test...Yep...It is kid approved! They rode their bikes up and down, up and down the driveway! :) They are loving it and looking forward to the snow to see if they can sleighride down it. I am happy because I don't think it will be steep enough, especially for my car to slide too much. ;)
