YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yesterday for my birthday, Cody planned to take me on a date to Logan and my mother was going to watch the kids. Our first time away from Ridge! I decided I would try to feed Ridge a formula bottle and pump so my mom would have the breast milk to feed him while we were away. He struggled to take it but I kept forcing the issue because I thought he just wasn't use to it. He got the whole bottle down, I got Saige down for a nap then came back to check on him and get him down for a nap too. He was all red and splotchy. Within minutes his body was swollen and covered in hives, he was bright red and struggling. He started exploding out both ends. I was so scared I have never seen an infant throw up so violently, it was coming out his nose and eyes too! My mom was already on her way to my house for our original plan so I left Saige sleeping and headed to the clinic. DJ Ballingham is heaven sent! He checked him out and we pumped him with Benedryl and I brought him home a much less swollen baby. Ridge has still been throwing up and rejecting even my milk trying to get it all out of his system. I guess if I ever try formula again it will have to be Soy based just in case it is milk base that he is allergic too. SOO... we adjusted our plan. Ridge's hives started disappearing, except his ears and fingers which looked like they were going to explode, so my mom stayed with the kids and we escaped to the Bear Trapper in between feedings and straight back. I enjoyed a wonderful salmon dinner and splurged and ate the entire apple carmel crisp and enjoyed every calorie. Anyway, it was a scare for sure but we are doing much better today and I had a great birthday despite the trauma!

Wow! That is kind of crazy. My oldest daughter was on soy formula because she was allergic to the milk formula. But she was fine once she switched to whole milk.

That is so scary, poor little Ridge! I am glad there is a clinic there now. I am also glad that you and Cody still got to go out; it is so important to have some kid-free one on one time.

Oh my! How sad! That is really scary, I'm glad that there was a doctor to help out and that you got to get out and go to dinner! Happy (late) birthday! :)

Happy Birthday Britt! I bet you were scared to death with little Ridge. I'm glad he is ok now. The first time I gave Kaden formula (4 mo. old) we ended up in the emergency room. He threw up everywhere so much I couldn't believe it and then he throat started swelling shut. By the time we got to the ER his oxygen level was below 60 and we ended up having to stay the night. He out grew the milk allergy when he was 2. It is a true miracle that there are drs. around to help. I'm glad that you did get to enjoy your birthday dinner and have a wonderful dessert!
