On the actual 24th we had a family bar-b-que at the Kay & Ivan Weston residence. It was so nice to see and spend time with my extended family. The Jim Weston family was visiting from Arizona and the rest of us who could get away were present. The grandkids had a great time playing in the yard, I have such fond memories of playing with my cousins there too. The tire swing was and still is a huge attraction. The classic Little People airport station is always an entertainer. My favorite of the evening was watching Saige pick the leaves from the lilac tree then take them over and feed them to the goose in the water fountain (notice her creeping crack :)again). The great-grandkids aren't quite old enough to play "No bears are out tonight" or "Kick the can" like we use to, but the feeling of nostalgia was still there.
On Saturday the 26th, we had a wonderful day in Laketown for the 24th of July celebration. We went to the Annual Chuck wagon Breakfast, Program and Parade. Brook sang beautifully the song that she recorded at her Jenny Phillips workshop. Saige scored with parade candy since she was the only little one in our area and they threw tons of candy for her. Unfortunately I have consumed most of it. We really enjoyed visiting with Grandpa/ma Weston and sitting in the shade. Then we all took naps at Grandpa/ma Williamsons. Upon waking, we took the dogs out to the "T" in round valley to swim and retrieve. The finale for the day was the annual Lakeshore vs Laketown softball game. It was a riot to watch (We always enjoy watching and supporting Cody) and the homemade root beer was superb. The highlight of the day for me was listening to Saige sing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" on our walk back as the sky was so amazingly bright! I reflected on how the pioneers must have been dazzled by the night sky on their long journey with no street light distractions or airplanes and satellites to be confused with stars. What a marvel...the sacrifices they made to settle in this valley...what love and appreciation I feel for them.
